SHREDDERS

E&OE February 2002 Subject to change without notice

Why do I need a Shredder?

These days almost everybody, whether at home or in business, accumulates a great deal of confidential paperwork – everything from credit card vouchers to bank statements and legal documents.  How can you dispose of items that are no longer required without running the risk of an outsider being able to share your secrets?  The answer is a shredder.

What does a shredder do?

A shredder takes in a number of sheets of paper at once and cuts them either into strips (Straight Cut) or into pellets (Cross Cut).  The shreddings from a cross cut shredder are much harder to reassemble than those from a straight cut shredder, giving a higher level of security.  Straight Cut shredders will produce strips of different widths according to the specification.  The shreddings from a Cross Cut shredder occupy less volume than those from a Straight Cut shredder as less air is trapped in the bin.

Which shredder do I need?

We offer a comprehensive range of machines catering for every requirement from shredding the odd single sheet up to heavy duty use in an office environment.  The machines that we currently hold in stock are shown overleaf.  There are many more that we can supply to order within a couple of days – please ask!

When using your shredder remember that you must ensure that it is not overloaded – this will result in damage that will not be covered by your guarantee.  Always select a machine that is able to cope not only with your needs today, but also allows for some extra capacity in the future.  The cutting capacity is normally measured using 70gsm paper – this may well be thinner than the paper you are using.  Small machines are not designed to be run continuously – always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.  You may need to rest the machine after as little as 3 minutes.

The speed of the machine gives some indication of its power, but remember that Cross Cut shredders always run more slowly than Straight Cut.  The degree of privacy required will enable you to decide between a Straight and Cross Cut machine.
